A winter homecoming for Charles City’s Lady Panthers provided an opportunity to make a run for the regional playoffs. But the inability to slow down the combination of Northampton’s Brianna Bochman and Maeyanna Delk proved too much to overcome.
Northampton’s Lady Yellow Jackets stormed out the game and cruised to a 71-45 victory during Friday night’s matchup.
Charles City gained possession of the lead three times early on in the contest. Baskets by Alexis Williams and Skye Bradby provided the hosts a slim advantage.
But the duo of Bochman and Delk took over from there. A pair of trifectas and lay-ins from Bochman along with Delk’s putbacks provided a 16-2 run for the visitors. Northampton controlled the first half, taking a 36-21 lead into the break.
Charles City was able to cut the deficit to 12, but it wouldn’t be enough as Northampton’s Jada Giddens notched easy baskets in the paint to put away the contest.
After the game, Lady Panthers head coach Hailey applauded the improved effort from her team.
“We did better on offense, which has been our struggle the entire season,” she said. “We slowed things down and went inside and overall, we made better passes and I feel that it did pay off.”
Charles City (4-13) received a team-high 19 points from Bradby, with Williams following close behind with 18. Naveah Coney and Milla Mantell both added three, and Bryshia Lewis chipped in with two.
