After suffering horrific losses, New Kent’s Lady Trojans retaliated in style Saturday night.

Jumping out with an 8-0 run to kickoff the game, New Kent demolished the visiting West Point Lady Pointers 61-16 in the non-district affair.

The hosts returned to its moniker of defensive pressure in the game, resulting in West Point committing early turnovers. From there, it was Lady Trojan Katelyn Norman whose offense powered the team. Her 10 points that was part of a 14-5 run elevated the hosts lead to 31-10 at the break. From there, New Kent had no issues with the Lady Pointers for the remainder of the contest.

Lady Trojan head coach Neko Burson’s message was that he didn’t want his team to squander any more opportunities on the court.

“We felt like we let too many games slip away that we could have won,” he said, pointing to dialogue with his team after the loss to Lafayette. “We take pride in our defense and the nights we don’t play defense well we take that personally.

“We didn’t have such a great defensive game last we, so yesterday that is what we focused on,” Burson continued. “No matter how much we score, we want to make sure the other team doesn’t and that is the mentality we came into in tonight’s game.”

Norman’s 21 points were a game high for New Kent, who improves its record to 12-6. Haley Hyndshaw contributed 13, McKenna Mueller added nine, Madison Foley tossed in eight, the duo of Hannah Drewer and Yazmine Brown both scored four, and Natasha Lange chipped in with two.
