Lady Trojans place third at Group 3A Region A cross-country championship meet
New Kent’s Lady Trojans cross-country team earned a third-place finish at the Group 3A Region A championship meet on Apr. 13 at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.
Rosemarie Gilbride was the top performer for New Kent, clocking a time of 23:06.11 on her way to an eighth-place finish and snagging an individual performer spot for the Group 3A state meet.
Teammate Charlotte Verdu snuck into the top ten with a time of 23:40.10. Other scorers for the Lady Trojans were Brook Swarringhim (14th-24:50.42), Ashley Verdu (16th-25:29.08), and Campbell Proffitt (19th-26:07.35). New Kent’s Serra Swartout (28:08.42) and Mea Picone (28:19.51) were the other runners for the Lady Trojans.
New Kent accumulated 60 points to earn the bronze medal position. Bay Rivers District rivals Tabb (36) and York (52) finished first and second, respectively.
On the boys’ side, New Kent was able to put together a fourth-place finish in the regional competition.
Freshman Isaac Lamprecht made an immediate impact on his high school career, finishing fourth in the meet with a time of 18:03.65 to earn a spot at the Group 3A state meet.
Classmate Will Ashley crossed the line in 18:52.17, earning a 14th place finish. Other scorers for the Trojans were Parker Hinks (30th-21:42.60), Jack Porter (34th-22:17.86), and Daniel Meyer (36th-22:32.01). Other New Kent competitors were Logan Rooks (23:38.94) and Tyler Mara (24:48.67).
The Trojans accumulated 112 points to earn the fourth-place spot. Bay Rivers District rivals Tabb (31), Lafayette (53), and York (58) grabbed the top three positions.
