Williams finishes as runner-up in Group 1A state triple jump competition
Recent Charles City High School graduate Alexis Williams finished as the Group 1A state runner-up in the girls’ triple jump Friday afternoon at James Madison University.
Williams leaped 35’0” to earn the silver medal in the event. She also earned an additional medal in the girls’ 100-meter dash, finishing in eighth place with a time of 13.89.
On the boys’ side, Charles City graduate D’Angelo Smith earned a fifth-place medal in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles. Smith ran a time of 17.78 in what was his only event of the day.
Williams’ nine points placed 19th overall in the state competition, while Smith’s four points placed 31st overall. Patrick Henry’s girls and Auburn’s boys’ teams won the state meets respectively.
