Colonial Downs hauls in $74.9 million in record breaking season

Colonial Downs success this season resulted in record-breaking financial numbers for the Colonial Downs Group under the ownership of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment.

Despite losing one day due to weather conditions, the group accumulated $74,940,840 in total bets for the 2022 racing season. That amount is an equivalent of $2.88 million per daily bet, up more than 29 percent compared to the 2021 season.

“Virginia racing is stronger than ever,” said John Marshall, Colonial Downs Group Executive Vice President of Operations. “It is gratifying to see Colonial Downs evolve into one of the nation’s elite destinations for thoroughbred racing.”

Colonial Downs paid out $15,918,538 in purses during the season, with the average daily purse being $612,000. Approximately 1,382 individual horses raced at the facility this year.
