New Kent’s Trojans did just enough at the plate as they defeated the visiting Lafayette Rams 2-0 in the May 15 contest.

The game remained scoreless as New Kent relied on the senior rotation of Hunter Jesse, Thomas Wilson, and Carson Seely on the mound. It wouldn’t be until the bottom of the fifth when Michael Hetzel doubled to get on base. After Tyler Warren reached base on a passed ball, Nile Gammon’s single drove both Hetzel and Warren home, providing the hosts a 2-0 lead.

Lafayette’s best effort came in the top of the seventh inning. After notching a few hits, New Kent was able to force the Rams into a force out at second base, ending the contest.

New Kent Trojans’ Head Coach Trevor Ronan spoke about his team locking into the postseason mindset.

“I feel good about what we have,” he said. “We have some players down right now, but our goal is to have them come back in the postseason and go make something happen.”

New Kent improves to 17-3.
