Lady Trojans no-hit Tabb, win Group 3A Region A Championship
New Kent’s Lady Trojans softball team captured another regional title in dominant fashion; this time by no-hitting their rival the Tabb Lady Tigers.
New Kent cruised to a 10-0 victory while keeping Tabb without out a hit in the five-inning affair, advancing to the state quarterfinals and a first-round home game after their May 30 triumph.
The Lady Trojans started attacking in the bottom of the first inning. Libby Britt’s base hit brought in the first run of the game. Leah Round followed up with a base hit of her own, allowing the hosts to take a 2-0 lead.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth. After Sydney Eubank and Mariah Leonard reached base, Kenley Rowe’s double drove home the two runners. A few moments later and with the bases loaded, Britt’s double pushed three more runs into the scoring column. After the lead reached 9-0 in favor of the hosts, Leonard returned back to the plate, this time using a single to drive home run number 10 and triggering a mercy rule victory for New Kent.
The Lady Trojans will host the state quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon.
