Lady Trojans run to first place at home cross-county competition
New Kent High School’s Lady Trojans cross-country team placed three athletes in the top five as they captured first at their Sept. 25 home tri-meet against Lafayette and Bruton.
Madison Johnson finished second at the competition, composing a time of 22:58. Teammate Brooklyn Fleischman finished right behind her in third place, accumulating a mark of 23:12. Aubrey Loucks snuck into the top five for the hosts, finishing fifth with a time of 25:24. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Trojans were Lorelain Mooradian (eighth- 25:58), and Jacy Bess (10th- 27:32).
The Lady Trojans edged Lafayette’s Lady Rams by a mere three points to win the meet. Bruton did not have enough runners to accumulate a team score.
On the boys’ side, New Kent earned silver in the three-team Bay Rivers District competition.
Leading the way for the Trojans was Vincent Bohardt, who finished second with a time of 20:26. Teammates Carter Henning (21:27), Tobey Davis (21:31), and Braxton Lee (21:33) finished in eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively. Brandon Crooms rounded out the scoring for the hosts, finishing with a time of 21:52, good enough for 14th place.
New Kent defeated Lafayette in the competition by five points and finished 11 points behind Bruton.
