Many Bay Rivers District teams know that New Kent’s Will Ross can shoot. And after New Kent hosted the visiting Poquoson Islanders Friday night in a rematch, so did the visitors.
Ross drained a school record 10 three-pointers on his way to a 36-point night as New Kent throttled Poquoson 94-39.
New Kent jumped out from the start with a 15-2 run, with Ross draining three long distance connections in the first quarter as the Trojans took a 22-4 lead after the first stanza. In the second quarter, three more upped his total to six. Meanwhile, New Kent’s defense clamped down the Islanders offense, allowing the host a comfortable 52-18 lead at the halftime intermission.
In the third quarter, Ross drained four more three-pointers, including his record-breaking one with just over a minute left remaining. From there, the mercy of a running clock was all that was left as the Trojans captured the victory.
New Kent (13-0) also received double digit scoring from Christian Joyner and Kyle Diggs, who finished with 13 apiece. Kristopher Leeper and Marty Wray both finished with seven, Michael Hetzel tossed in six, Jarred Hathaway contributed five, Dylan Bowman added three, and the duo of Kingston Young and Ethan Smith chipped in with two apiece.
