New Kent’s Lady Trojans’ dominance on the diamond continues, especially on the offensive side of the plate.

New Kent cruised to a 25-1 victory over the Bruton Lady Panthers in Friday afternoon’s Bay Rivers District contest.

After New Kent pitcher Abbie Kegley struck out the side to begin the contest, the Lady Trojans’ carousel of runs commenced in the bottom of the frame. Mariah Leonard’s double brought home teammate Kenley Rowe to put New Kent on the board. From there, Kendall White’s base knock drove home two runs to up the home team’s advantage to 3-0. The advantage increased to 5-0 after Cassidy Branch’s single drove home two more runs. By the time the inning ended, New Kent held a 10-0 lead.

New Kent sealed the contest in the bottom of the third, as home runs by Brooklyn Wiles and Hannah Tober added to the offensive output for the hosts.

After the game, Lady Trojans’ Head Coach Maria Bates spoke about her team’s hot start.

“The girls are hitting well with eight home runs in their first four games,” she commented. “Our defense is coming in with our pitching.

“We are gelling so far and we have some tough statement games coming up with some non-district schools, so that will show us where we are at,” Bates concluded.

New Kent remains undefeated with a record 5-0.
