New Kent’s Trojans jumped out the gate with four first inning runs as they defeated the visiting Bruton Trojans 11-1 in Friday afternoon baseball action.

The Trojans got on the board early with Lane Boyette’s solo home run. After that, New Kent pushed across three more runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-0 lead.

The runs continued in the bottom of the second, with Michael Hetzel’s RBI single pushing across runs five and six for the home team. Andrew Staskiel followed that up for the Trojans, with his base hit adding run number seven. Jonathan Hochman’s triple contributed to two more baserunners crossing the plate for the Trojans, increasing the advantage to 9-0.

After a Bruton score in the top of the fifth, New Kent was able to add two more scores in the bottom of the frame, leading to the 11-1 win and implementing the mercy rule.

After the contest, New Kent Head Coach Trevor Ronan spoke about his team’s chemistry beginning to click.
“Everything is coming together, and we are eight deep with our pitching,” he said after the contest. “Everybody did what I asked them by jumping on this team (Bruton) early and we handled our business.”

New Kent’s record improves to 5-1 on the season.
