Charles City man wanted on sex crimes surrenders
A Charles City County man, who has been on the run from police since November when he was indicted on 15 felony sex charges involving underage girls, has surrendered to authorities.
Accompanied by his attorney, Forrest Everett “Skeeter” Evans, 74, of 5901 Courthouse Road, was taken into custody on the morning of Feb. 1 at the Charles City Sheriff’s Office.
Capt. Jayson Crawley said his office received a phone call the day before from Evans’ lawyer, Oscar Brinson, who said his client would surrender the next day. Evans was formally served with felony indictments and taken to Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George County where he was being held without bond.
Crawley said he was unsure where Evans has been hiding, but added that recent media attention probably led to the suspect’s surrender.
“We were unable to question him because his counsel was there, but we had the general idea that he was in the Richmond area,” Crawley said.
A Charles City Circuit Court grand jury indicted Evans on Nov. 13 in connection with alleged sex acts involving two girls who were ages seven and 10 at the time. The suspect faces 10 counts of aggravated sexual battery and five counts of forcible sodomy.
Two indictments allege that Evans “repeatedly committed aggravated sexual battery” on each girl from July through December in 2006. The other eight sexual battery indictments stem from allegations from May through August in 2007.
The five sodomy indictments involve just one of the alleged victims and are alleged to have occurred during the same monthly time frames in both 2006 and 2007.
County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Tyler said last week that Evans is scheduled to stand trial on March 21 in Charles City Circuit Court.
