New Kent track teams run away with wins

New Kent’s boys and girls track teams each won 10 events as they turned back three Group A foes in a home meet last Wednesday.

The Trojans scored 131 points to outdistance Essex’s 58, Lancaster’s 47, and Charles City’s 11. The Lady Trojans, meanwhile, totaled 114 points to Lancaster’s 57, Essex’s 52, and Charles City’s 7.

The meet’s only double individual event winners emerged on the girls’ side as Lady Trojans Kayla Christian and Jamie Lull each registered a pair of firsts. Christian took the triple jump (33-3) and 100 meters (12.3) while Lull captured the 1600 (5:59.4) and 400 (67.9) meters.

Other Lady Trojan individual winners were Chelsey Stertz (shot, 31-0), Jessica Jones (intermediate hurdles, 51.5), Tyler Savage (800, 2:39), and Kelly Downs (3200, 13:14). New Kent swept the relays.

Individual winners on the boys’ side were Nick Parsons (pole vault, 10-0), Malcom Jones (long jump, 19-7), Darnell Fenton (triple jump, 37-11.5), Paul Kearney (110 hurdles, 16.42), Austin Smith (1600, 4:53), Kevin Chavis (intermediate hurdles, 43.9), Ethan Emmons (800, 2:07.4), and Michael Lull (3200, 11:19). The Trojans also swept the relays.
