Christian’s 4 wins pace NK track triumph

Kayla Christian won four individual events and Kelly Downs won two more as New Kent’s Lady Trojans prevailed in a five-team track meet last Wednesday on their home oval.

Christian won the long (17-1) and triple (35-5) jumps along with the 100 (12.0) and 200 (25.7) meter dashes while Downs took the 1600 (5:59.1) and 3200 (13:08) meter runs, helping New Kent to amass 146 points. Lancaster placed second with 95 followed by Poquoson’s 36, Smithfield’s 35, and Jamestown’s 26.

On the boys’ side, New Kent won nine events in piling up 129 points while Smithfield came in second with 102. Jamestown and Lancaster tied with 45 and Poquoson totaled 22.

Other individual winners for the Lady Trojans were Jamie Lull in the 800 (2:29.6) and Nicole Anderson in pole vault (6-6). New Kent swept all three relays.

For the Trojan boys, winners were Darrell Fenton in triple jump (41-0), Nick Parsons in pole vault (11-0), Paul Kearney in 110 hurdles (16.1), Austin Smith at 1600 meters (4:25.5), Kevin Chavis in intermediate hurdles (42.7), Ethan Emmons in the 800 (2:05.1), and Mike Lull at 3200 meters. New Kent won two of three relays.
