he forecast. They were even calling for thunderstorms with high winds and hail. This did not deter the members of Little Elam Baptist Church from preparing for the first part of their Family and Friends Day celebration on April 12.

Program director LaWanda Christian could be heard saying, “I don’t mean any harm or disrespect, but please don’t anyone come to me with another weather forecast. I have faith that it is not going to rain.”

Her faith along with the faith of the other members, family and those friends who braved the impending weather was enough to keep the tears from heaven away until almost to the end of the activities for the day. Before the rain came and went, participants could participate in activities that were being held both inside and outside.

Outside activities such as horseback and motorcycle riding were a few activities that participants could enjoy.

On the inside, participants enjoyed sack races, cup cake decorating, jewelry making, and numerous games such as the cake walk and were able to have their pictures taken as a souvenir of the day.

To finish out the day’s events, there was a gospel explosion in the main sanctuary of the church featuring young talent from Charles City and Henrico County. There was a variety of talent displayed from singing and a puppet show to praise dancing.

On April 13, LEBC welcomed the Rev. Clyde Doxey and his congregation from New Covenant Baptist Church of Chesapeake. We continued to have outside activities such as a basketball game, inflatable jump and cotton candy.

At the end of program, Mrs. Christian extended her thanks to all participants especially to her co-program chair, Asheli Black, for all of her hard work, efforts and support. It was the perfect ending to a perfect weekend of celebration that almost got rained out. Submitted by Ebony S. Brown
