NK teams 5th in BRD meet

Both New Kent cross country teams finished in fifth place overall at the Bay Rivers District meet held Oct. 23 over the William & Mary course in Williamsburg.

New Kent’s Austin Smith placed eighth overall in 16:17 to become the school’s lone qualifier for the Region I meet held last Thursday. Only the top 15 individuals and top four teams move on to region competition.

Finishing in the top five scoring spots along with Smith for New Kent were Michael Lull (17:12), Deylan Smith (17:22), Dylan Long (17:26), and Eric Lawler (17:30). John Faircloth finished in 18:05 while Brandon Belcher posted 18:23.

Kristy Galloway led the Lady Trojan team in 21:09. Her 17th place finish just missed out on a region berth.

Emily Honeycutt (21:25), Amber Owens (21:44), Anna Black (21:58), and Rachel Foster (22:33) completed New Kent’s top five in scoring. Elisabeth Sewell ran 23:00 while Winter Rae finished in 23:10.
