New Kent’s boys’ track team amassed 194 points to easily cruise past four Group A opponents as outdoor track season got underway on March 18 on the New Kent oval. The Lady Trojans, meanwhile, squeezed past the same four foes.

On the boys’ side, Mathews scored 57 points to finish second overall while Charles City (29) placed third. Trailing were King William (21) and Middlesex (9).

The Lady Trojans scored 84 points to 74 for runner-up King William. Middlesex ended with 63 followed by Charles City’s 45 and Mathews’ 36.

The Trojan boys won every event except the 4×100 relay, which was captured by Charles City after the New Kent team was disqualified. Darrell Fenton (triple jump, 400 meters), Joel Fudge (110 hurdles, high jump), and Michael Lull (1600, 3200) emerged as double individual event winners.

Other winners included Desmond Worelds (100), Paul Kearney (300 hurdles), Chris Crocker (800), Kevin Chavis (200), Ryan Coles (discus), Ryan McTheny (shot), Cody Simmons (long jump), Charles Parsons (pole vault), Adam Otey (high jump) and the Trojan 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams.

On the girls’ side, MaKenzie McNamara captured three events — high jump, long jump, and 200 meters. Krystal Jones won triple jump and Arica Fowler took pole vault for New Kent while Charles City’s Chiquita Black prevailed in 100 meter hurdles.
