NK takes tennis home opener

New Kent’s boys’ tennis team opened its home schedule on a successful note by downing non-district opponent Rappahannock 8-1 on March 19.

In singles, New Kent’s Carter Gilland (8-3), Taylor Gresch (8-2), Miles Foley (8-0), Jacob Bivans (8-2), and Kyle Mechling (8-4) posted wins. Chris Sickal absorbed an 8-4 loss.

New Kent swept doubles with Gilland and Sickal winning 8-3, Gresch and Tyler Block cruising 8-1, and Foley and Bivans prevailing 8-6.

The team is 2-0 heading into Bay Rivers District competition.
