Justin Williams, Steven Allen, and Adam Otey scored 13 points apiece as New Kent’s host Trojans rolled past Bay Rivers District foe Poquoson 67-52.

The hosts forged ahead 25-11 after one period and never looked back in dominating the first half of the Jan. 6 contest. Trojan reserves took over for most of the second half as the hosts improved to 9-0.

“We played pretty well in the first and second quarters,” New Kent coach Ed Allen said, adding the effort enabled him to rest his starters and hand the ball over to his reserves after the break.

“[The Poquoson coach] pulled his starters in the second half so I pulled out mine,” he said. “Then he began putting them back in one at a time and that kind of caught me off guard.”

Poquoson managed to whittle New Kent’s lead to 12 at 59-47 with 2:10 left in the game, prompting Allen to reinsert the first string. The Islanders never got closer.

Kaleb Lamb scored eight for the winners followed by Paul Kearney’s six, Everett Christian’s four, three each from Chuck Evans and Josh Brown, and two apiece from E.J. Gray and Matt Fultz.
