New Kent wrestlers dominate region, 11 headed to state

Eleven New Kent wrestlers are headed to the Group AA state meet after the host Trojans dominated in last Saturday’s Region I tournament. The Bay Rivers District champs amassed 240.5 points to far outdistance runner-up Poquoson’s 148.

Four Trojans — Mikey Emana (125), Nolan Schultz (135), Devontae Fitzgerald (145), and Evan Canady (285) — emerged as regional champions. Willie Driscoll (152) and Ethan Young (160) reached the finals and finished second. Five more Trojans — Trey Gregory (112), Corey Todd (119), Robert Cutrell (140), Casey Lewis (171), and Ryan Coles (215) — won consolation matches to place third overall.
