Trojans edge Rappahannock in tennis

New Kent’s boys’ tennis team won two of three doubles matches to squeeze past Rappahannock’s visiting Raiders 5-4 in a March 23 non-district match.

New Kent got singles wins from Kyle Mechling, Jacob Bivans, and Mikey Emana as the teams were deadlocked 3-3 heading into doubles. The doubles teams of Mechling/Bivans and Emana/Robert Storey held on for wins.

Singles: Meyer (R) d. Gilland 6-1, 6-0; King (R) d. Sickal 6-3, 6-2; Mechling (NK) d. Dunaway 7-5, 7-5; Bivans (NK) d. Wiseman 6-1, 6-1; Emana (NK) d. France 7-5, 2-6, 7-5; Fallin (R) d. Storey 6-1, 6-3. Doubles: Meyer-King d. Sickal-Gregory 6-2, 6-1; Mechling-Bivans d. Dunaway-Fallin 6-1, 7-5, 11-9; Emana-Storey d. France-Wiseman 6-3, 4-6, 7-4.
