CC, NK track teams compete

Charles City and New Kent track team members competed in the Milestat.com Elite Invitational held April 23-24 at Maggie Walker Governor’s School and Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond.

New Kent’s 4×100 meter relay team (Justin Williams, Cory Dunn, Cody Simmons, Desmond Worelds) ran a season-best 43.23 to place third overall. Dunn, Paul Kearney, Coy Robinson, and Austin Smith ran 3:27.98 to finish seventh in the 4×400 relay.

New Kent’s Michael Lull finished second in the unseeded heat of the 3200 meter run with a 9:55.18 clocking. Charles City’s Kierra Brooks ran 13.06 in the 100 meter dash to place ninth.

New Kent’s boys scored 16 points to place 16th overall.

The meet, the largest high school track and field event in Virginia, featured more than 1,400 athletes from 75 schools.

Boys: 110 hurdles- Kearney (NK) 16.36, Wyatt (CC) 17.75. 100- Jones (CC) 11.8. 400- Robinson (NK) 52.91. 300 hurdles- Kearney (NK) 42.38, Wyatt (CC) 43.76. 200- Jones (CC) 23.77. Pole vault- Parsons (NK) 10-0. High jump- Jones 5-8. Long jump- Dunn (NK) 20-5¼.

Girls: 200- Brooks (CC) 27.07.
