NK supervisors amending fire lane parking for 2nd time

For the second time in less than a year, New Kent’s Board of Supervisors is revising county law with regard to motor vehicles parked illegally in lanes reserved for fire and emergency vehicles. A year ago, a New Kent General District Court judge noted the county law, as written then, had no means of enforcement and treated illegal parking as a criminal offense rather than a traffic violation. Last winter, supervisors amended the law, but now that same judge is questioning the fairness of the revised penalty adopted by the board. As it now reads, anyone found guilty in court…

Charles City residents sound off on proposed noise law

Charles City Board of Supervisors members are considering comments voiced on the county’s proposed noise ordinance amendment and are planning to take action during their July 27 meeting. Supervisors listened intently as a dozen county residents weighed in during a June 22 public hearing on the proposed law. Some expressed concern that the law could adversely affect their business and special events while others complained about specific noise incidents generated by neighbors, private parties, and auto speakers. Five killed in two-week span on roads in New Kent, CC

Deaths of a Virginia Beach teen last Thursday and a Henrico County teen on June 27 have upped to five the number of people killed in a series of single vehicle crashes occurring over a span of just two weeks on New Kent and Charles City roads. All of the accidents involved vehicles running off roadways with four smashing into trees. Four have occurred in New Kent while the fifth took place in Charles City.
