NK grand jury indicts 15

A New Kent man, indicted in July by a county circuit court grand jury and sought for crack cocaine distribution, has been found and arrested by New Kent sheriff’s office detectives.

The grand jury, convening on July 19, indicted Johnathan Ladarryl Jones, 30, of 14315 Paige Road, Lanexa, on four counts of crack cocaine distribution. Those indictments were promptly sealed pending Jones’ arrest.

But authorities were unable to locate the suspect until Aug. 10. Shortly after 1 p.m., detectives Joey McLaughlin and Donald Mehalko found Jones in a residence at 18005 New Kent Highway in Barhamsville.

Jones also faces two cocaine distribution counts in James City County. He was being held in Henrico Jail East, but has since been released on $35,000 bond.

Monday, Jones appeared in circuit court where he requested a court-appointed lawyer. Judge Thomas B. Hoover appointed Todd Duval and set a tentative trial date of Oct. 18.

Under questioning from Hoover, the supect said his mother put up his bond money.

Other individuals indicted on July 19 and the charges they face are:

–Willie Maynard Thomas 59, of 14335 Concord Road, Doswell: one count of construction fraud stemming from a job allegedly not completed last Sept. 15.

–Doris Cowles, 52, of 20625 Braxton Road, Barhamsville: two counts of welfare fraud and three counts of perjury. Cowles allegedly committed fraud between September 2005 and March 2007. The perjury charges stem from allegedly making false statements on applications for public assistance.

–Lisa Lucette Holmes, 46, of 8124 Virginia Avenue, Eltham: four counts of welfare fraud allegedly committed during the period of August 2008 through February 2010.

–Jeffery Leon Akrie, 53, of 14600 Rockahock Road, Lanexa: one count of driving under the influence, third offense in the past 10 years. Akrie was arrested on Feb. 28.

–Marcel Calvin Brandy, 29, of 510 Tailgate Terrace, Landover, Md.: one count of eluding police. Brandy was arrested on April 4.

–Bernard Anthony Brickhouse, 41, of 816 Enos Court, Newport News: one count of driving after being declared a habitual offender. The suspect was arrested on April 29.

–Meghan Mariah Byington, 18, of 3001 Portugee Road, Sandston, and Kayla Ann Hendricks, 22, of 6616 Jackson Road, Quinton: one count each of grand larceny and two counts each of burglary. Both are accused of breaking into the homes of Natisha Elkins and Marilyn Fletcher last April 5. Electronics and cash were reported stolen from the Elkins house.

–Roshawn Jerome Cooke, 22, of 8539 Willis Road, Gloucester: one count of grand larceny auto. Cooke allegedly stole a 2009 Pontiac belonging to PV Holding Corporation on Feb. 19.

–Matthew Dabney Jr., 21, of 9816 Old Church Road, New Kent: one count of embezzlement. Last June 8, Dabney allegedly embezzled cash from Colonial Downs where he worked.

–Mark Keith Easterling, 52, of 169 A View Avenue, Norfolk: one count of grand larceny auto. The suspect allegedly stole a 1992 Honda Civic from Angela Delois Edwards on April 17.

–Robert Ryan Ferguson, 28, of 8032 Vermont Avenue, Eltham, and Derek Jermaine Jones, 27, of 6050 Farmer’s Drive, Barhamsville: one count each of burglary and grand larceny. The pair allegedly broke into the home of Angela Kelley on May 6 and stole a XBox game console, games, and jewelry.

–Antuan Jamal White, 18, of 207 Mildred Drive, Williamsburg: one count each of grand larceny auto and eluding police. White allegedly stole a 2004 Chevrolet pickup belonging to Joyce Woodward Schroeder on March 11.
