County fairs upcoming in Charles City, New Kent

Charles City’s annual County Fair is running one day only this Saturday (Sept. 11)) at the Charles City Social Center in Ruthville.

Grand opening is scheduled for 10 a.m. with the introduction of local and state officials. Entertainment then takes over on center stage and continues throughout the day. Moneymaking booths will have games and fun activities as well as craft and food sales. Also featured are educational displays, a car show, and farm and home exhibits.

Special contests in the farm and home exhibits category include Best Bread Pudding in Charles City and Best Brunch competitions. For information on entering, contact the Extension office at 652-4743.

Farm and home exhibits (except baked goods and fresh cut flowers) are being accepted at the Social Center on Thursday, Sept. 9 (1-8 p.m.) and Friday, Sept. 10 (7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.). Judging takes place Friday afternoon.

Baked goods and fresh cut flowers are being accepted on Saturday, Sept. 11, 7:30-9 a.m. only. Judging for these items only takes place Saturday morning.

Charles City County Fair Committee and Charles City County are the event’s sponsors. Admission is free.
