NK Sheriff’s Office prescription drug take-back scheduled for Sept. 25

By Community Member | September 9, 2010 11:41 am

New Kent Sheriff’s Office is participating in the first nationwide prescription drug take-back day on Sept. 25 during which county residents can dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired prescription medication.

The DEA-sponsored effort looks to reduce misuse, abuse, and the diversion of pharmaceutical drugs. Improper disposing and flushing of drugs contributes to polluted waterways.

County residents can bring the medication to the sheriff’s office from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 25. A drive-thru collection site will be available behind the sheriff’s office. The drugs will then be taken to a secure location for storage and destruction by the DEA.

Residents should remove or obscure personal information on the drug containers. Permanent markers will be available on-site to obscure information.

The disposal service is free, and no questions will be asked. For questions or more information, call 966-9500.
