Unable to mount a sustained attack, New Kent’s Falcon varsity midget team fell 21-0 to Glen Lea’s Lions in the Metropolitan Youth Football League semifinals on Nov. 20 at Henrico’s Dorey Park.

The contest got off to a shaky start for New Kent as the Falcons fumbled away the opening kickoff. New Kent’s defense, however, responded with a four-play stop to take over on downs.

The Falcons mounted a penalty-marred drive that reached the Glen Lea 26 yard line before running out of downs. On the Lions’ next play, quarterback RaQuan Waller raced 74 yards to put Glen Lea ahead to stay.

New Kent kept Glen Lea in check for the remainder of the first half, but Waller hooked up with Jordan Williams on 2-yard pass play late in the third quarter to help extend the lead to 15-0. Jamal Newton’s 16-yard run closed the scoring late in the final period.

The Lions limited New Kent to just two offensive series in the second half. The Falcons never advanced past Glen Lea’s 34 yard line.

For the game, New Kent (9-2) ran for 72 yards, managing just four first downs. R.J. Morris carried six times for 36 yards.
