Plea deals for trio indicted for marijuana distribution

Three individuals swept up by a task force charged with cracking down on illegal drug trafficking in New Kent have cut plea deals in county circuit court.

Brandon Alexander Black, 20, and Angela Dawn Camper, 44, both of 4506 Chipoax Avenue in Richmond, and Robert Walton Myles Jr., 21, of 2605 New Kent Highway, Quinton, pleaded guilty to at least one charge each in court on Monday.

Black had been the target of a Twin Rivers Narcotics Task Force investigation earlier this year, commonwealth’s attorney Linwood Gregory told the court. Camper and Myles incurred charges by being present on a few occasions when Black sold marijuana to a confidential informant.

In September, a grand jury indicted Black on seven charges — three felony and four misdemeanor counts of marijuana distribution. Under terms of a plea deal, two of the felonies and one misdemeanor were dropped. Black pleaded guilty to the four remaining charges.

The charges evolved from marijuana buys an informant made from Black on June 8, July 6 and 30, and Aug. 19, Gregory said. The Aug. 19 sale involved more than a half-ounce of the drug, thus the felony charge.

Hoover followed plea deal terms by imposing a 10-year prison term on the felony count with all but three months suspended for the next 20 years. On the three misdemeanors, the judge imposed 12 months in jail, all suspended for five years, on each. Black must also pay the State Police $1,000 and New Kent Sheriff’s Office $120 to cover cost of the investigation.

“You better turn it around,” Hoover warned Black. “But based on your past, you’ll be selling drugs or caught selling drugs and you’ll be back here to serve time.”

Camper, meanwhile, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor marijuana distribution charge. A plea deal dropped a felony count and another misdemeanor.

Gregory said Camper allowed Black to drive her car and rode in the vehicle to the July 6 drug sale. The informant identified her, the prosecutor added.

Hoover gave Camper the same warning he voiced to Black after imposing a 12-month jail sentence, all suspended for the next five years.

Myles, meanwhile, was present during three sales Black made to the informant, Gregory said. Myles had been indicted on one felony and two misdemeanor distribution counts, but a plea deal dropped all but one misdemeanor charge.

Gregory labeled Myles’ role as “minimal.” The defendant pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count incurred on June 15. Hoover imposed six months in jail, all suspended for the next five years.
