NK wins own invitational

New Kent wrestlers captured first places in four of 14 weight classes to spur the host Trojans to the championship in last Saturday’s New Kent Invitational.

Corey Todd (119), Trey Gregory (125), Mikey Emana (135), and Evan Canaday (285) won individual titles. New Kent, meanwhile, scored 205 team points to edge runner-up Deep Run’s 197.5.

J.R. Tucker placed third with 168 followed by Hampton (144.5), Currituck (138.5), Lee-Davis (128), Patrick Henry (95), Midlothian (81), Lakeland (61), and Monacan (24).

Two Trojans, Bobby Rodriguez (112) and Austin Fuller (130), advanced to the championship round and finished second. Brett Flora (140) and Cody Flora (145) won third place matches while Wilson Gregory (171) and Ryan Coles (215) placed fourth and Brett Gouldine (189) took fifth.
