Two in Brickshire car thefts receive plea deals in New Kent Circuit Court
Two men involved in thefts from a number of vehicles in the Brickshire subdivision of New Kent accepted plea deals during Monday afternoon New Kent Circuit Court proceedings.
Aaron Scott Lee, 21, of the 3100 block of Chickahominy Road, Toano, and Terrance Terrell White, 21, of the 3000 block of N. Riverside Drive, Lanexa, accepted terms of the plea agreement, with White entering an Alford plea of guilt (meaning he maintains his innocence but stipulates evidence presented is enough to convict him) and Lee entering a straight guilty plea. Both pleas were to three counts of grand larceny, two counts of credit card theft, two counts of misdemeanor petty larceny, and five counts of misdemeanor vandalism. Nine other charges were dropped.
In a summary of evidence provided by Commonwealth’s Attorney Linwood Gregory, last Aug. 30 approximately 12 unlocked vehicles in the subdivision were entered with items such as cash, computers, electronics and credit cards reported stolen. Gregory said James City County police had similar incidents and received a tip from fishermen who saw items tossed from a vehicle during one of their excursions. The fishermen retrieved some of the items and through cooperation, James City police provided information to the New Kent Sheriff’s Office, eventually linking the crimes to the two suspects. Both Lee and White along with a third co-defendant, Austin Curtis Peterson, 19, of the 3900 block of Penzance Place, Williamsburg, were taken into custody.
Under the agreement, White will serve a year on one count of credit card theft, with the nine years suspended. A total of 56 years on the other 11 charges were suspended.
Lee will serve two and a half years on one of the credit card theft convictions, with seven years, six months suspended on that charge. He has 54 years, six months of suspended time imposed on the remaining charges. Each man also must pay $3,219 in restitution.
Peterson’s trial was continued to June 29 due to pending cases in James City County.
