New Kent’s Lady Trojans scored all the runs they would need (and all the runs they would get) in the second inning on the way to a 4-1 softball conquest of Tabb’s invading Tigers.
Thursday afternoon’s outcome got the hosts back on the winning track following a tough extra innings loss to Grafton two days earlier.
“I’m much happier, but we’re still struggling with hitting,” Lady Trojan coach Nicole O’Bier said concerning the win. “The defense the last two games has been really good. It’s just those bats need to put more runs on the scoreboard.”
New Kent managed just four hits for the outing and only one during the four-run second. Brittany LaPrade walked, Stephanie Torrence reached base on a fielder’s choice, Madison Beasley got aboard on an error, and Emily Angle singled. All scored, with Angle’s single producing two of the runs.
New Kent’s only breakdown on defense occurred in the sixth when a pair of errors led to Tabb’s lone run. Other than that, Destiny Eberhard’s pitching held the Tigers in check. Eberhard went the distance, striking out four while surrendering just four hits and walking one.
The victory raised the Lady Trojans’ record to 8-6.
