New Kent boys second, girls fourth at Conference 25 championships

Trojan pole vaulter Griffin Kowal set a meet record with a clearance of 13’9” while teammate Joshua Dixon also earned a first place win in the shot with a heave of 41’9½” as New Kent’s boys finished second at the Conference 25 meet on May 19 on their home track.

New Kent boys’ scored 111 points, finishing runner-up to powerful Lafayette’s 137 points and ahead of third place Warhill’s 62.

On the girls’ side New Kent scored 42 points, good enough for a fourth place meet at the conference championships.

Caitlin McClain and Kayla Davis emerged as event winners for the Lady Trojans. McClain earned gold in the discus with a throw of 107’10”, while Davis claimed the high jump with a clearance of 4’10”.

Lafayette girls cruised to victory with 246 points, followed by Warhill’s 111 and Colonial Heights 50 to round out the top three.

Trojan athletes who finished in the top six in an event will participate in the Group 3A East Regional Championship on May 27 in Culpeper.
