Care packages completed

Shayla Forrest (left), Kylie Cargill (right), and Madison Rowe (not pictured), eighth grade students at New Kent Middle School, stand by boxes of collected items to construct care packages for soldiers for the school's Random Acts of Kindness Club. The trio spearheaded the project to make baskets for deploying soldiers that contained toothpaste, blankets, magazines, and non-perishable items, spending more than 25 hours sorting and inventorying the items. With help from the community and students at both George Watkins and New Kent Elementary School, the eighth graders surpassed their goal of 2,500 care packages, collecting enough items to make 2,600 baskets that are planned to be delivered to Fort Eustis in Newport News on June 11. They also collected $350 for the purchase of additional supplies. The girls would like to thank everyone who participated and helped them reach their goal.
