John Andrew Hubbard III

John Andrew Hubbard III, lovingly referred to as Jay, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 5, 2015. He leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years, Ruth, their two sons, Jayson Hubbard and Bernie Smith, and his two grandsons, Camden Hubbard and Tyson Smith.
Jay is also survived by his two brothers and their families, Johnny and Joe Hubbard; his daughter in law, Rachael Hubbard; his great aunt Josie Shinholser; and a multitude of family and lifelong friends that will miss him dearly.
An avid outdoorsman, Jay loved spending time hunting and fishing with his family and friends. As a Virginia Commonwealth University alum, Jay loved to cheer on the VCU Rams, especially during basketball season. He was also a big fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Washington Redskins and loved growing up and raising his family in New Kent County. He followed in his father’s footsteps by faithfully serving as an emphatic Mason. His faith in the Lord was a driving force in his life and he loved his home church, Liberty Baptist Church in Lanexa, where he was a member for 54 years, and his current church family, Hopewell Baptist, in New Kent. He humbly served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and was an integral member of the choir and singing quartet. Jay’s kind spirit, sense of humor, love of life, and loyalty to the ones he loved will be greatly missed. But, we all rest in the fact that he has met his glory.
Jay’s family received friends at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, 23140 on Tuesday, June 9 from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Funeral services took place at Marengo Plantation, 12101 Old Church Road, New Kent, 23124 at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 10, followed by graveside at Hopewell Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in Jay’s honor to the Hopewell Baptist Church Building Fund, 5061 Hopewell Road, New Kent, VA 23124.
