CCMS ‘Reading with the Leaders’ summer sendoff

Above, students receive autographs and advice from (right) Norfolk State head football coach Latrell Scott (foreground) and Virginia State head football coach Byron Thweatt as part of Charles City Middle School's "Reading with the Leaders" program sponsored by the Charles City Civic League. Along with donations from the community and a donation from Charles City's Educational Foundation, more than $11,000 was raised to buy a non-fiction and fiction book for each student at the middle school to read over the summer break. Below, former Charles City native Dr. Anne Charity Hudley motivates students emphasizing the importance of reading in today's society.
