Fishing derby brings smiles to 4-H participants
Over 30 children, parents, and other family members gathered at Ed Allen’s Campground in New Kent for the 8th annual 4-H Fishing Derby.
Smiles were across the faces as some participants caught their first fish, with the largest catching being a Bowfin that was 20 inches long.
The event also served as the culminating for New Kent Cloverbuds. The group learned the basics of fishing, fish identification and why fish are important to the environment.
Jack Lee and Kary Allen were thanked for organizing the event and helping sponsor a hot dog lunch for children, volunteers, and sponsors in attendance.
