Letter to the Editor: Says to vote Holmes as New Kent treasurer
I am writing this letter to voice my support for Norma C. Holmes for New Kent County treasurer.
I worked for New Kent in the finance department from Nov. 2001-Oct. 2010. Because the finance department and treasurer’s department work closely together, Norma Holmes was one of the first county employees that I met. She has proved to be a valuable resource and a trusted co-worker throughout my career with the county.
During that time she ran the office as she did today. New Kent residents are her priority and she expects nothing but the best customer service from herself and her employees. Her teamwork with colleagues is vital, as Norma will do her utmost to assist the finance department and any other county employee that requires her help. Norma also values her employees. She takes a personal interest in their well-being and encourages them to further their careers through professional development.
When considering candidates for public office, I ask myself, “How does this individual conduct his or her personal life?” I believe that how an individual conducts his or her private life gives insight into character and is a great indicator of how they will perform in public office. Norma conducts her professional life the same way as she does her personal life- with grace and integrity.
Norma has more than 40 years of experience in New Kent’s Treasurer’s office. Millions of county taxpayer dollars have been entrusted her for decades. I would trust her with my own personal finances without hesitation.
I’m a firm believer that if something is not broken then it does not need to be fixed. I urge you to continue the tradition of a stable fiscally responsible New Kent Treasure’s office and vote to re-elect Norma Holmes as treasurer on Nov. 3rd.
