Letter to the Editor: Says Stiers is asset to New Kent

Four years ago, a hurricane left Woodhaven Shores with hundreds of trees laying in our roads and crushing our properties. It was impossible to drive from entrance to another within our neighborhood. One month later, a tornado swept through a portion of Woodhaven, leaving a trail of destruction. Our little community of 480 homes looked like a war zone. It was devastating, to say the least, and we faced a daunting financial challenge.

As the manager of Woodhaven POA and a resident, I pleaded for help from the county, state and FEMA. I was told that because Woodhaven is a private community, we would get no assistance.

Ron Stiers heard about the horrible state of the neighborhood and immediately started working to get us help. Ron organized “Operation Love Thy Neighbor” and cleaned up our entire neighborhood! It took months, but without fail, Ron and volunteers cleared our roads and properties.

Not everyone realizes how or who was responsible for the miraculous recovery of Woodhaven Shores. It all started with one man, who received no personal benefit, Ron Stiers. He genuinely felt empathy for us and wanted to help.

I can confidently say that Ron Stiers is one of the biggest assets to Woodhaven Shores and this district. I will vote to keep it that way.
