Public hearing on truck stop moved to November meeting

A meeting to hear about a proposed truck stop at the corridor of Interstate 64 and Route 106 (Emmaus Church Road) has been moved to November.

New Kent’s Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Nov. 16 for the proposed Love’s Truck Stop in the Talleysville area of New Kent.

Commissioners heard the proposal from Love’s representatives during an Oct. 19 regular scheduled meeting. That meeting presented details on the truck stop that included 73 parking spaces and 14 fuel stations for automobiles. Diesel trucks would have fueling stations on the most western part of the property. Layout for that area includes eight fueling stations and 89 truck parking spaces. A convenience store spanning just over 7,200 square feet as well as a fast food restaurant covering 3,100 square feet are also part of Love’s master plan. A traffic light for an access road at the intersection across the street from the truck entrance of Pilot Truck Stop is also part of the proposal.

New Kent supervisors received an abbreviated presentation at their Oct. 28 work session. At that work session, Love’s representatives said they were accommodating schedules to push the public hearing with the planning commission to November with the possibility of county leaders taking action on a conditional use permit (CUP).

If approval is given by supervisors at the regular monthly meeting in December, construction for the Love’s Truck Stop could begin as early as January with an estimated three to six months to complete the project.
