CC Spell 3
Fifth grader Christian Stewart tackles a word on the way to claiming the title as best speller in Charles City County public schools during the county’s spelling bee on Feb. 4. He won the nine-round affair, first by correctly spelling “flora” and following that up by spelling “formula.” Below, he poses with his prizes, a certificate and a dictionary. He now advances to regional competition in Richmond. Participants (at bottom, l-r) are fourth grader Delaney Narron, fifth grader Christian Stewart, sixth grader Savannah Adkins, seventh grader Marcus Jones, and eighth grader Abigail Sweeney.Andre' Jones photos
