Bridge projects in Charles City postponed due to projected inclement weather
Two projects involving bridges in Charles City County have been postponed due to projected inclement weather.
The Herring Creek Bridge on Route 5 (John Tyler Memorial Highway) in Charles City was originally scheduled to be closed Jan. 21-22 for concrete to be poured onto the deck. Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) has delayed that project until Tuesday, Jan. 26.
Starting on that Tuesday at 9 a.m., the bridge will be closed to all traffic as concrete will be poured onto the deck. The bridge will remained closed until 7 a.m. on Jan. 27 to allow the concrete to sit.
Detours for the road are listed as followed: Eastbound traffic are to take Route 106 North (Roxbury Road) to Route 650 (Cattail Road). Travel the road to the end and turn right onto Route 609 (Barnetts Road) and take it southbound back to Route 5. Westbound traffic are to travel north on Route 609 to Route 650. Turn left on Route 650 and take it to the end and turn left onto Route 106 South to return to Route 5.
In another bridge-related matter, Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced the postponing of the closure of the Benjamin Harrison Bridge to repair the stop gate.
VDOT made the announcement last week in a statement indicating that due to inclement weather, the repairs will be delayed until further notice. Please go to www.nkccnews.com for updates on dates for bridge repairs.
