Tim Mathis, a 2014 graduate of New Kent High School and current student at Rappahannock Community College, participated in the “Shave to Raise” event in Hampton Roads.

Mathis was part of a six-person team that shaved their heads to raise money to fight childhood cancer. This is Mathis’ fourth year in the event, raising $145 out of his team’s $530.

“I go bald by choice because a child I know didn’t have the choice,” said Mathis in a press release. “It’s something I look forward to every year.

“All the money that we raise can help a child with cancer, and cutting our hair allows us to relate to what they go through as they undergo treatment.”

Mathis is scheduled to complete his Associate of Arts and Sciences degree this May and plans to transfer to East Carolina University or Towson University upon graduation.
