Putting the unity back in community

New Kent County Sheriff J. Joseph McLaughlin Jr. and event organizer Charles Moss lead approximately 150 people from the Old Historic School to New Kent Courthouse as part of the first New Kent Unity Walk held on Aug. 26. Taking a path that covered two-tenths of a mile, citizens and law enforcement officers walked side-by-side to promote peace and provide comfort to each other. Other activities included a joint singing of the national anthem, prayer for military personnel, and musical performances.Andre' Jones photo
