Lady Trojans capture Conference 25 cross-country crown; Trojan boys take second

Led by Jackie Clardy-Joseph and Natasha Lange, New Kent’s Lady Trojans raced to the Conference 25 cross-country title Tuesday afternoon over the 3.1-mile William & Mary course.

Clardy-Joseph and Lange finished one-two with respective times of 21:23.84 and 22:25.21 to highlight New Kent’s 43-48 win over runner-up Warhill. Poquoson (65) placed third followed by Southampton (90) and Park View (126).

Maggie Jarvis took fifth place for the victors in 23:07.84. Samantha Miller (17th, 25:06.55) and Rylie Cross (18th, 25:26.7) completed the Lady Trojans’ scoring. Sara Ward (25:39.06) came in 19th while Chloe Picone (26:52.6) finished 22nd.

New Kent’s Trojans, meanwhile, totaled 38 points, just four behind Warhill’s 34 in the boys’ competition. Poquoson (50) took third followed by Colonial Heights (127), Southampton (135), and Park View (157).

Jon Swartout led New Kent with a fourth place finish in 17:44.08, just ahead of teammate Patrick Johnson who placed fifth in 17:59.01. Also scoring for the Trojans were Allan Walker (7th, 18:32.87), Yuri Frazier (10th, 18:37.29), and Christian Lysek (12th, 18:42.07). Brian Stevenson finished 17th (18:59.38) while Augie Gilbride placed 21st (19:29.57).

Both teams advance to next week’s region meet.
