Letter to the Editor: Urges CC parents to attend board meetings

To the parents of Charles City Public School children and concerned county residents, I am posting this letter as a request that all county residents take an active interest in our school system and the children therein.

We, the parents and citizens of Charles City County have an obligation to these children. It is often said that the children are our future. If that’s true, we need to become more involved in our future.

The attendance at the school board meetings has been absolutely disgraceful. I can’t think of anything more important than my child’s education and academic well being. I am urging each resident to take a couple of hours out of their busy schedules and attend these school board meetings.

We need to know what’s going on in our schools and we need to have a voice in the operation of our schools. We need to become proactive, instead of reactive.

Let’s send a message to the school system that we care. If we can make the time to attend basketball and football games, we can certainty make the time to attend school board meetings. The meetings are normally held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Please join me in showing our children that we care and we want our schools to be the best learning environment possible.
