When any type of reunion occurs, it usually is a time of celebration and a harmonious get-together. For three former New Kent County residents, a common love for music reunited childhood friends to create a lifelong dream.

Brothers Sean and Ryan Green are the frontmen of the Green Boys group based out of Richmond. Along with Michael Emmons, they spent part of their childhood in New Kent. Zack Miller plays with them to form a quartet catering to music venues by playing styles of soul, jazz, and acoustics.

The Green brothers lived in New Kent until the age of 13 when they moved to Fredricksburg. Emmons is a 2005 graduate of New Kent High School. The story of their reunion, however, is one that not even a best-selling author could formulate.

“It’s kind of funny,” said Emmons remembering how the band originally got together. “Ryan, Sean and I grew up together. One day, I went to Fredricksburg to visit them and just to play with them because I knew they loved to play music. Since then, everything fell into place.”

As with a puzzle, the pieces fit together. The result is a flourishing band that’s toured the East Coast in a variety of venues, including making a stop at New Kent’s Third Base Grill last Friday.

“We saw it as a good homecoming event,” continued Emmons. “We came here to support local business and show our appreciation to the community.”

Emmons, along with the Green brothers, reunited with many of their friends from childhood days. Jamming from 8 p.m. to midnight, the group pleased a standing room only crowd in its first return to their original roots.

Reaping benefits from touring also includes a release of the group’s first full-length album this month entitled “Oh Delia.”

“We’ve been playing live original material for a while and this is a representation of how we sound now,” said Emmons. “We want to show people back home what we did and this is what we do now.”

Since forming in 2008, the group has added two new members and played in multiple surrounding states. The group also entertains at private functions and other venues.

“We are really happy and thankful for all the support, especially when we visit our hometowns,” concluded Emmons.
