Jones, Savage medal at elite track meet
Charles City’s Daron Jones and New Kent’s Austin Savage each earned bronze medals at the Milestat.com Elite track gala on Saturday, June 9 at Sportsbackers Stadium in Richmond.
Jones placed third in the boys’ high jump with a clearance of 6’0”, while Savage ran a time of 1:57.15 in the 800 meter run to garner his medal. Jones also earned a medal in the triple jump with a fourth place finish, leaping 42’8¾.”
Other participants included New Kent’s Tanner Smith and Hunter Ferrell, as well as Charles City’s Sara Whitehead.
The track meet is sanctioned by the United States Track & Field Association and is a premiere event. Athletes are required to meet mark and time requirements in order to participate. This year’s meet had more than 400 athletes.
