Pantry shelves and cabinets are covered with debris from Saturday's storm that destroyed the building.

New Hope’s Food Pantry, serving senior and disabled citizens of New Kent and Charles City counties since 2001, was destroyed during Saturday’s thunderstorm by a collapsed tree. The tree, with a diameter of five feet at the base, fell on the roofof the building, caving in the back wall and breaking the trusses of the building. All items that could be savaged were transported to the church.

The church is currently under construction due to a previous building project and is working without a facility to distribute food. Donations are sought to continue distribution throughout Charles City and New Kent, as well as a facility to help store food and other items.

New Hope’s Food Pantry distributes to 50 families a week and is open every Tuesday 4-5:30 p.m. For information to donate, please call 840-7937 or visit www.NewHopeFamily.us.
