New Kent County Fair

New Kent County Fair queens (above) pose for a royal picture after the grand parade during opening ceremonies on Sept. 21 at Colonial Downs. Below, Tamika Hathaway displays prize-winning eggs, flowers, and canned goods on her way to claiming first place in the adult division of the fair’s annual sweepstakes competition. At bottom, a pair of young jousters battle it out to determine who is the mightiest of warriors at the inflatable pit. Other attractions at the fair included a camel ride, an animal farm, onstage performances by musicians and magicians, and harness racing. Tamika Hathaway accumulated 172 points to claim top billing in the adult division of New Kent’s County Fair sweepstakes. Oraphine Crump finished in second with 139 points, while Martha Martin earned third place with 115 points.

In the youth division, Justine Eckert scored 68 points to earn the top spot among participants. Luke Holloway finished second with 43 points, while Kelsey DeHart and Aaron Sweeney each scored 39 points to finish tied for third.
