New Kent dominates on mound, plate in romp of Bruton
Powered by a dominating pitching effort and strong performance at the plate, New Kent’s Lady Trojans cruised to an 11-0 beatdown of the visiting Bruton Lady Panthers in Friday afternoon’s Bay Rivers contest.
Lady Trojan Gracie Ellis’s performance on the mound and at the plate keyed the hosts’ play. Taylor Goode drove in a run followed by teammate Haley Cleaver bringing her home to provide an early 2-0 New Kent lead. Ellis limited Bruton from getting on base, while New Kent tacked on nine runs in the remainder of the contest to force a slaughter rule victory.
After the contest, New Kent head coach Maria Bates talked about the teams second consecutive win.
“We came out and pitched well and gave great effort on offense and defense,” she said. “I was pleased that we had no errors and continued to stay discipline and play hard throughout the game.
“We never had a letdown, no matter what the score was,” Bates concluded.
New Kent improves to 2-0 on the season.
